Reisterstown Wedding
Reisterstown is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. The population was 22,438 at the 2000 census. Founded by John Reister in March 1758, the location that is now Reisterstown was settled due to its strategic location on the frontier between Baltimore and points further north in Pennsylvania and west in Maryland. Reister originally purchased 20 acres of land at an intersection of several roads approximately 16 miles northwest of Baltimore. He named this area Reister's Desire and established an inn and tavern.
In 1763 the Reister family purchased an additional 83 acres of land connected to their property and started to attract settlers. By 1785, the town began to grow at a faster pace as Reister's six children moved out on their own and started several businesses in the new town. Some of these businesses included blacksmith and carpenter shops, a distillery, and a tannery.
The town remained a travel-oriented town until people eventually began settling as more stores and commercial businesses opened up. By 1787, town, county, and state officials began referring to the town as Reisters Town, and eventually simply Reisterstown Reisterstown is located at 392725N, 764853W (39.456954, -76.814610)GR1.
